with his feet planted firmly on the ground..."

About Sunflies

Last Updated: 17 July 2009

Sunflies is a critically acclaimed Hertfordshire-based alt.rock band establishing a solid reputation in the UK for their electrifying live shows.

Influences include The Cure, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Muse, Foo Fighters and Joy Division.

Since its inception in 2005 Sunflies has enjoyed many highs and endured many lows. The "lows" refer mostly to the initial problems that founders James (Scott, guitar and lead vocals) and Joanna (Scott, additional vocals) had settling the line-up, with what looked to the outside world like a revolving door policy for the rhythm section. Things solidified with the appointment of Matty Long on bass in 2006 (now a cornerstone of the the band's sound, creative process and general dynamic), and stabilised further for a while with - first of all - Alex Walker, and latterly Chris Marks on the drums.

During this time, signature tune 'Vampires' won Sunflies a slot performing at Millennium Square in Leeds as part of the Breeze Festival (supporting indie munchkins 'The View'), whilst the band's reputation also secured them favourable coverage in the NME, along with Radio 1 airplay and appearances at a number of high profile live events, including a 'BBC Introducing...'-endorsed show at Europe's biggest carnival.

Sunflies entered 2009 with uncertainty, waving goodbye to Chris Marks within the first quarter of the year. Alex Walker returned for one event, and Charlie Wood filled in for a few shows before Steve Mayes was appointed as the band's new drummer in June.

The band is currently working on new recordings and a series of live dates.
