VBAH REVIEW:
"...(Toy Drum) come perilously close to playing a couple of happy songs. Bad idea. The good stuff's always in the dark corners.
Not that you'd have to tell Sunflies that small essential truth.
If Toy Drum are more evolved (than The Suspects), then Sunflies are the eight legged, four headed finished article.
They've been working hard this past year, despite line-up changes, and it shows. New drummer Chris Marks is a real find. He looks a bit insane when he plays, sets his cymbals up some crazy distance from his stool and if you were seeing the band for the first time, as i was, you'd think he was a founding member, as he doesn't miss a beat all night.
Basically Sunflies were a class above the rest tonight and their performance reminded me of the first time i saw a signed act. They had that solid, polished sound you can only get from some serious hard work.
Musically they're pretty dark, but they could make nursery rhymes sound ominous if they played them with with the sort of muscular intent they displayed tonight. Singer James Scott goes after the vocals with an intense fury and co-vocalist Joanna Scott feeds off his energy, prowling and whirling around the stage, looking cool and a little scary at the same time.
Matty doesn't do any whirling, but he's got a massive 5 string bass round his neck, which he plays with nonchalent style. They play a tight set, each song distinct from the other and never let the standards drop, a point rammed home by the stunning way the set was ended.
You had to be there.
And if you weren't, my advice would be to quit your job and spend the rest of your life watching bands."
Spike.

"Since the last time I saw Sunflies, they have lost a bass player and a guitarist but have gained a new bass player in Matty Greenbank... From their last performance I was definitely a fan of the dark and slightly gothic rock that the Sunflies play and the new lineup definitely live up to my previous impressions. The songs are tight, the vocals are sharp and they play with an energy that the impressed crowd soaks up with glee. I would definitely like to nick a few of ther bass lines but I doubt I'd be able to play them let alone get away with it... All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening. PDM Paul announced that this was the biggest crowd he's had for a 3 band show on a Tuesday night." Kieron - VBAH Fanzine
